Your smartphone can finally get you a coffee

We can all agree that mornings are horrible, but a new Wi-Fi enabled smart coffee machine might be able to make them a little more tolerable. All you need to do to have a steaming hot cup of java waiting for you when you wake up or get home is use the app on your smartphone to get brewing.

After a few bleary-eyed taps of your tablet the Smarter Coffee machine kick in to life. You can grind and brew fresh coffee on demand, and adjust the strength to get your perfect cup, all from your mobile device.

The ‘Wake up’ feature sets a time each morning to have the coffee ready and brewed for you, so you’ll be able to wake up to the smell of freshly made coffee that will help you get through a day of hellish commuting and soul destroying work.

If you’d rather get a cup of coffee after a hard day at the office then the ‘Welcome Home’ setting will present you with a freshly brewed cup (or more, as the machine can brew up to 12 cups at once) when you walk through the door as if HAL 9000 dropped the homicidal computer gig for a job as a barista at Starbucks.

The Smarter Coffee machine is available to pre-order exclusively from Firebox.com for £149.99.

Hot drink technology

Years of hard work and technical innovations have now meant we can make hot drinks that won’t burn our mouths. Those who toiled during the industrial revolution so that we could sip hot drinks without discomfort will be so pleased.

Hey Joe

Hey Joe, where you goin’ with that cup of coffee in your hand? Is it a safe temperature? Oh good. The Hey Joe can brew coffee on the go, and you can set the ideal temperature for your drink so you don’t have to worry about it being too hot.

Just pour water into the upper compartment, and the battery operating heating plate will warm it to the desired temperature. When it reaches that temp it drips onto a compact coffee pod, filling the reservoir at the bottom with coffee.

Smart lid

The Smart lid is a simple device, but its simplicity is what makes it such a good idea. Just place the lid over a cup of coffee that you’ve created or bought and the lid will change colour depending on the temperature of the drink – dark red will warn you that the cup of caffeinated goodness is hot enough to burn.

The Smart lid is aimed at cafes and businesses, so the next time you pop out to grab a cup of coffee you may find a helpful Smart lid keeping you abreast of the temperature of your drink.
